What Is a Heat Pump?

A heat pump system is an all-in-one HVAC unit designed to heat and cool your home. It does this not by generating air like a furnace or air conditioner. Instead, it uses heat energy from both inside and outside of your home.

For example, in winter, heat pumps extract energy from either the air or the ground, heat it up, and then transfer it inside for warmth. Then, in the summer, the process reverses: The system takes indoor heat energy and releases it outside, similar to an air conditioner.
